Yamato Co., Ltd., based in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, is proud to announce the launch of QUANTUM, a brand dedicated to redefining the way we mourn and supporting individual moments of prayer and remembrance.
QUANTUM, meaning "quantum," refers to the tiny particles that make up everything in existence—humans, objects, and all forms of matter. Within this infinite universe, QUANTUM aims to inspire people to reflect on the essence of life and death, nurturing a sense of mourning, gratitude, and a spiritual anchor.
The brand direction was led by Issay Kitagawa (GRAPH) and Shunsuke Kato (NOTA & design). Both creators, deeply attuned to the need to return to the essence of life, death, and rituals, have beautifully expressed QUANTUM’s worldview through its logo design and every detail of its products.
At the heart of the collection is the “BOX”, a vessel that gently preserves memories and cherished items of the departed. This elegant lacquered box, adorned with soft curves, contains tools that deeply and quietly accompany moments of introspection. Inside, you’ll find traditional haze wax candles, a brass candle holder, a ceramic diffuser, and an aroma oil crafted by artist Kan Izumi, inspired by QUANTUM’s concept. Beyond the core collection, the brand plans to collaborate with various artists to release limited-edition items in the future.
In addition, the childhood home of Yamato Co., Ltd. representative Yoshikazu Usui, located in a small village in Nantan City, has been converted into the QUANTUM showroom, now open to the public. An opening event will be held on Saturday, December 21, featuring tea master Kazuko Horiguchi and confectionery artist Okashimaru.
As the forms of funerals and rituals undergo significant transformation, QUANTUM aspires to offer a place of solace, encouraging everyone to reflect on life and carry a spirit of mourning into this new era.
